Tennessee Tech University business students are putting the finishing touches on their resumes as they get ready for the College of Business Spring 2011 Professional Development Week. The event is scheduled for the week of March 21st. It's held each semester and features a variety of business professionals from local, regional, national and international companies who speak about topics ranging from business etiquette and community involvement to networking and self-marketing.
"Business students affiliating to upper division are required to register for and attend a number of Professional Development Week sessions, but all other students campus-wide are welcome to attend any of the sessions without registering," said Amy Jo Carpenter, program manager of the College of Business Student Success Center, which plans and organizes the event.
Tech officials say the week offers professional speaker sessions, oral communication speaker sessions and written communication workshops. Featured professional speakers this semester include Tim Bulow, Brad Dozier and Jenny Smith. Bulow is a TTU accounting graduate who earned an MBA from Harvard University and now serves as global marketing director of General Mills in the company's Minneapolis headquarters. Dozier is a member of both the Nashville and Tennessee bar associations. He is also a member of the Financial Planning Association of Middle Tennessee and teaches a federal income tax course at Belmont University. Smith is a Putnam County native who is currently serving as executive producer of marketing for WMC-TV, the NBC affiliate television station in Memphis.
