Cookeville Fire Chief Resigns From Job

The man who had been serving as Cookeville's fire chief for the past five and a half years has resigned from the job.  City manager Jim Shipley says Fire Chief John Kendrick submitted his resignation, effective today -- April 7, 2011. According to a press release from Shipley's office, Kendrick cited personal and professional reasons for his resignation.  The press release said Chief Kendrick enjoyed his service with the Cookeville Fire Department and was proud that the department continued its excellent reputation for service under his tenure as Chief.  Kendrick began his career with the city of Cookeville as a firefighter on March 11, 1990. He had been serving as Fire Chief since December 26, 2005.  Shipley has appointed Captain Roger Fuqua as Interim Fire Chief.  Fuqua has been with the department since 1978 and was promoted to Captain in 1997.
