EMA Says Storm Damage Is Minor, So Far

Putnam County's emergency management agency was kept busy for most of Monday afternoon and evening, tracking severe storms that moved across the area. EMA director Tyler Smith says trained storm spotters reported seeing funnel clouds in the Algood area and around Tennessee Tech. The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Putnam County at about 2:40 pm, based on Doppler radar indicating a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado.  And, just as that warning was set to expire at 3:30, the weather service issued another tornado warning, this time specifically for northeastern Putnam County and southern Overton County.  That one expired at four o'clock.  EMA director Smith says that during the storms, some of the shingles on the roof of Tech's Prescott Hall were blown away, and several tree limbs were reported down around the county, but otherwise no major damage or injuries were reported.
